Flooding continues in starr county
August 26, 2008 | News
Today the city of Escobares was host to a meeting of local leaders and txdot representatives. As you may have guessed, they came together to discuss the recent rains in Starr county and what can be done.
The mayors of Roma and Escobares along with other agencies from the valley and state had a bit of a brainstorming session today at the Escobares city hall. The recent rains along with the promise of more rain on the way requires “immediate relief” for Starr county.
One of the quick fixes discussed? Cleaning out the culverts.
However this would only be a short term fix. A long term solutions would include removing obstacles in the path of the flood water… Namely business such as this junk yard which not only prevents the water from flowing, but also floods the surrounding neighborhood.
In the meantime, the city of Mcallen has sent several vacuum trucks to help pump out some water, and offer some much needed help.
Best case scenario, the most affected cities of Starr county could see help by Wednesday.
