But he made New Orleans his home and its cause uniquely his own.

After 43 years of futility and one of the finest quarterbacking performances ever delivered in a Super Bowl, he made sure there’s no need to ask “Who dat?” anymore.

Thanks to Brees, the answer to “Who dat say they gonna beat them Saints?” is: nobody.

“We just believed in ourselves and we knew that we had an entire city and maybe an entire country behind us,” he said after being voted MVP in New Orleans’ 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts. “What can I say? I tried to imagine what this moment would be like for a long time, and it’s better than expected.”

“I’m just feeling like it was all meant to be. What can I say? The birth of my son, and in the first year of his life we won a Super Bowl championship.”

The people of New Orleans will embrace him now tighter than some of their kinfolk. It didn’t hurt, of course, that when Brees arrived in 2006, both he and the city were at a crossroad.

A torn labrum in his throwing shoulder in the final game of the 2005 season, coupled with the Chargers’ acquisition of promising young passer Philip Rivers, made Brees expendable and left him wondering whether his career was already on the downside. When Saints coach Sean Payton drove Brees around New Orleans hoping to sell him on joining the Saints, Brees realized, seeing residents struggling to cope with the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, that he’d found the perfect place to begin his own comeback.

“Four years ago, who ever thought this would happen?” he said, still fighting back tears.

Earlier, as confetti swirled just above the playing surface at Sun Life Stadium, Brees’ eyes were already watering, trying not to cry as he held his son, Baylen, who was wearing a Saints jersey with his father’s name on the back and a headset so the loud celebration wouldn’t scare him. Brees struggled yet one more time to keep his emotions in check as he lifted the silver Lombardi trophy over his head.

But a few minutes into his postgame interview, Brees simply quit trying.

“Eighty-five percent of the city was under water, all the residents evacuated all over the country, people never knowing if they were coming back or if New Orleans would come back,” he said. “But not only the city came back, and the team came back … when the players got there, we all looked at one another and said, ‘We’re going to rebuild together.’

“We leaned on each other,” Brees said, pausing as he choked up. “This is the culmination of that.”

Yet in the same way that New Orleans’ progress has come in fits and starts, so it was with the Saints on this night. After a rocky first quarter, Brees found his rhythm midway through the second quarter and finished with a record-tying 32 completions in 39 attempts for 288 yards and two touchdowns. He was never finer than during what turned out to be the go-ahead scoring drive, stringing together 10 straight completions.

What made it even more satisfying is that he outdueled Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

“Phenomenal,” wide receiver Marques Colston said. “You really can’t put that kind of performance in words. To have 32 completions and two drops, he deserves the MVP.

“Hopefully,” he added, “you guys can start putting Drew in that elite quarterback conversation.”

Consider it a done deal.

Lawyer: Pitt and Jolie sue over split claim

Entertainment

(AP) Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have begun legal action against a British tabloid that reported the celebrity couple was going to split, a lawyer acting on their behalf confirmed Monday. We have advised them to bring proceedings which they have now done,” Schillings said.

He also said Sorrell Trope, a high profile divorce lawyer in Los Angeles, had denied claims she had been in contact with the couple, as had been reported.

“I have had no contact from Angelina Jolie and/or Brad Pitt,” Trope wrote, according to a letter sent to the couple’s lawyers and partially quoted in Schillings’ statement. “I have never met … your clients or had any involvement with either of them. The forgoing is true with respect to all other members of this firm.”

Hayley Barlow, spokeswoman for the News of The World, declined to comment on the couple’s decision to sue the newspaper.

British laws governing libel have traditionally been seen as friendlier to claimants than those in the United States. British law places the burden of proof on the publisher, unlike libel laws in the United States, which require proof that an article was both false and published maliciously.

Hasbro 4Q profit rises on sales of boys’ products

Business

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Hasbro Inc., the nation’s second biggest toymaker, said Monday its profit surged in the fourth quarter on sales of boys’ action figures and other toys as well as strong licensing revenue.

The owner of the Transformers, Tonka and Playskool brands also said it expects sales and earnings per share to grow this year although it didn’t offer specific estimates.

Its shares climbed $3.50, or 11.5 percent, to $34.38 in morning trading after rising to a 52-week high of $34.42 earliuer in the session.

The fourth quarter is key for toy makers since it contains the holiday period and can make up to half of the quarter’s sales.

Hasbro said its profit surged 77 percent to $165.6 million, or $1.09 per share, in the quarter ended Dec. 27, easily beating the 81 cents-per-share estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. These estimates normally exclude one-time items.

The company, based in Pawtucket, R.I., reported earnings of $93.6 million, or 62 cents per share, for the fourth quarter a year ago.

Sales climbed 12 percent to $1.38 billion from $1.23 billion, topping Wall Street’s estimate of $1.34 billion. Taking out the impact of foreign currency translations, revenue increased a more modest 7 percent.

Last month Barbie-maker Mattel Inc., Hasbro’s chief rival, said its fourth-quarter profit rose 86 percent, helped by cost cutting, while sales edged up 1 percent to $1.96 billion.

Hasbro said its North American results reflected stronger sales of toys for boys, while girls and preschool were weaker. Entertainment and licensing revenue climbed 44 percent to $155 million on growth in its lifestyle licensing and digital gaming.

For the year, Hasbro’s earnings grew 22 percent to $374.9 million, or $2.48 per share, compared with $306.8 million, or $2 per share, in 2008.

Annual sales improved to $4.07 billion from $4.02 billion. Excluding positive foreign currency translations, revenue rose 3 percent.

The results extended the toy maker’s streak to nine straight years of earnings per share growth and five straight years of revenue growth.

Toys tied to TV shows and movies have performed well for Hasbro. In 2010, the company will have toys linked to “Iron Man 2″ and “Toy Story 3.” The 2011 slate includes “Stretch Armstrong,” “Spider-Man 4,” “Transformers 3″ and “Avenger Captain America.”

The company is also moving forward on a sequel to “G.I. Joe” with Paramount.

Law Enforcement gets eye in the sky: Part 2

Special Report

High above the Rio Grande valley sky the view is crystal clear… “got three rafts coming your way” A pick up truck loaded with pot…Plunges into the Rio Grande river as police on ground and by air . Seems like these organizations are getting more aggressive, their technology has increased, the organization has increased, we have increased our capability with our helicopters that you can see here. We try to stay ahead with technology”

A 12 year department of public safety veteran in charge of the Laredo and Mcallen aircraft divisions.

“I flew before I was in the Texas DPS aircraft section, always had interest in flying.I had flown with DPS pilots as a city officer and highway patrolman. This was the direction I wanted to go to do the most good.”
For Holland and his crew of seven based in Mcallen, catching criminals is just one of the functions at one of the busiest air stations out of the 14 in the state.

“we provide air support to state, local and federal law enforcement agencies. We do a lot of lost person searches, small children, criminal photography, search and rescue, pretty much anything you can do in a helicopter, law enforcement wise we do”

The reason these pilots are successful is two fold. Meet the Eurocopter-145. It took two years to perfect and can carry up to ten people.

The Texas DPS aircraft has different ways of technology to fight crime during the day and also at night, such as the Thermal Imager… Nothing goes unseen with Texas DPS flying above.

“the helicopter this platform is the latest and greatest of law enforcement helicopter technology, you can see the thermal imager, optical cam being displayed, computers that will get us in the right spot, having this technology in the police helicopter cuts down response time immeasurable.
Another gadget on the Eurocopter-145…” the night sun” a light so powerful its able to turn night into day. The second reason for success from up above?

“as you can see these helicopters are so complex that having an officer with law enforcement equipment is what is taking us to the next level. “
Meet Rudy Escobar, tactical operations officer, Escobar sits on the left side of the helicopter focusing solely on the cameras, navigation systems and tools aboard the aircraft.

You got the other rafts coming your way Rudy, look for guns Rudy “

“I got the rafts..Beacon on the side have bails on the side they are pulling out of the water

Law Enforcement gets eye in the sky: Part 1

Special Report

Law enforcements eyes in the sky are called on for all sorts of situations…From drug smugglers to missing persons. And the one thing they all say is…There is no such thing as a typical day on the job,

“there is no typical day. We can go from a search and rescue, searching for an Alzheimers patient, a lost child to a law enforcement action in a moments notice”
On June 22 2009 fox 2 cameras rolled as police desperately searched for 2 year old Liliana Hasmin.

It was past 11 at night when according to police the 2 year old’s father had kidnapped and threatened to kill the toddler after an argument with his wife.

“we are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Its the best job in the world. These air crews go through a lot of testing, a lot of training, they can shift gears and change missions in a moments notice, sometimes they have to reconfigure the helicopters to do that, its very intense and the guys that do this job…Well their heart is in it”
Fox2 joined Lt. Holland for a ride along the Rio Grande river to get a first hand on what a day on the job might bring about.

“we don’t go to Mexico, we go to the Rio Grande river boundary, this where our jurisdiction ends. We do communicate with Mexican authorities and exchange information from time to time.
It was a calm Sunday when in a matter of moments we spotted a man swimming across the river.

DPS cameras zoomed in for a closer look and captured three men trying to swim across into the united states. Lt. Holland reported to border patrol agents arriving of their location

“this job is unique because our pilots and air crew are troopers at heart. They love to fly. They get the best of both worlds, they can do their job as law enforcement officers.

Hit-man captured in Mexico

News

A possible break in a nearly two-year old murder case in mission.
