Drunk Driver Sentenced for Accident in Alton

Jose Edmund Pena-Madrid who plead guilty to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault after causing an accident that claimed the life of 17-year-old Luis Alfredo Hernandez and left 23-year-old Jose Balderas incapacitated learned his sentence this morning. Madrid will serve 78 months in prison for both counts. The Hidalgo County Assistant District Attorney, Joseph Orendain says his sentence will run concurrent. The family of the teen killed in the car accident a year ago is not satisfied with the punishment. Inside the packed courtroom, Madrid addressed both families and said he hopes for forgiveness. FOX 2 NEWS caught up with Madrid’s Family. They are devastated and hope the Hernandez and Balderas Families overcome this traumatic experience. After hearing his sentencing, Madrid was handcuffed and taken to the Hidalgo County Detention Center for processing. He later will be transported to a state prison where he will serve his sentence.
