Several suspects, including a female, faced drug possession charges
this afternoon after police conducted a raid at an Edinburg home.
Acting on a tip, late Wednesday afternoon the Edinburg Police
Department’s Anti-Narcotics Team responded to a home at the 1000 block
of South 8th Street. Investigators searched the home and found 150
pounds of marijuana and packaging material inside the garage. Police
arrested Jessica Gamez, Michael Alaniz, Matthew Torres and Michael
Mendoza. They were arraigned this afternoon for felony possession of
marijuana. Police say, the drug found in the stash house was just part
of a large load. Elias Saldivar has lived in this neighborhood for
over 30 years. He tells FOX 2 NEWS he was shocked to hear about the
drug bust yesterday afternoon. Police tell FOX 2 NEWS, the suspects
are taking quiet neighborhoods by surprise picking houses like this
one to conduct their illegal business. The suspects received a bond
and were transported to the Hidalgo County Jail.
