Domestic violence that spilled into the workplace. A Mercedes man is arrested after police say he attacked his girlfriend at her job. The charges also include assault on a police officer.

A man is behind bars tonight after police say he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a knife at her workplace late yesterday afternoon.

Police officers were dispatched to this loan company located on 6th street and Texas in Weslaco after investigators say 26 year old Miguel Angel Quintana or Mercedes assaulted his girlfriend Monica Ayala with a knife after a verbal dispute.

After stabbing Ayala, the suspect ran away from the scene, but was located moments later by police officers… According to investigators, officers tried to arrest him but he put up a fight.

Quintana was taken into custody and arraigned this afternoon… Charges include one count of aggravated assault causing severe body injury… One count for resisting arrest… Another for harassing a public servant by spitting in his face and one last count for criminal mischief for breaking a police unit’s window… Weslaco municipal judge Carlos Garza set his total bond at 517 thousand 500 dollars.

Fox 2 news spoke to Quintana’s mother who says she feels sorry for what happened to the victim who remains in critical condition at a local hospital in Weslaco.

If the victim doesn’t survive her injuries, Quintana could face capital murder charges.

Fox 2 news tried to speak to the victim’s manager, however we’re told she doesn’t have authorization to comment on the incident… We did learn from police, this is not the first time the pair had sustained a verbal and physical dispute inside the finance company.
