Students are sending these messages during class, at lunch, and after school. Unaware of the serious trouble they could get into.
High schoolers have watched their opportunity to get a job, a scholarship or admission to the university of their dreams vanish as a result of being identified in sexually suggestive pictures.
Recently, teenagers have been arrested on child pornography charges.
According to the Texas Penal Code, possession of child pornography is a third degree felony, but it becomes a second degree felony if the person knowingly or intentionally promotes or possesses with intent to promote such material.
A second degree felony is punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine up to 10 thousand dollars, while a second degree felony is punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison and a fine up to 10 thousand dollars, the Texas Penal Code states.
Texas Attorney General, Gregg Abbott says the goal is not to prosecute teens.
So rather than punishing your child and taking your teenager’s cell phone away, experts suggest you focus on correcting his or her behavior.
