There is another scam artist taking advantage of hurricane dolly victims. There have been several reports in the city of La Feria about an alleged contractor that promises to renovate victims’ homes but in the end leaves them empty handed. Ambrosio Olivares’ neighborhood was literally washed away when hurricane dolly swept across south Texas. All of the carpet inside of his home was damaged and the walls began to deteriorate.
He and his wife Cathy sought the help of FEMA and they were granted assistance. Their next step was to find a local business to fix their home, and they met Jose Delgado, a Mexican native from Saltillo, Coahuila who Olivares says promised quality work for a very low price.
“he said he would come with the paperwork, but he wanted to figure out the cost and estimate and that he would come with a contract afterwards. He never showed you anything? No, he would put it off for the following day.”
The La Feria constable’s office received reports that this man has stolen more than 12 thousand dollars from at least two families. They say Delgado’s method is to ask for the money before hand and then starts the job. After a few days, he does not show up, avoids all phone calls, and mysteriously disappears. Deputies have already searched for Delgado at his most current address in La Feria, but apparently he has moved out.
“We found out that he wasn’t coming back when one of his workers came by and told us that he couldn’t find him, and when he went to his house all his belongings were gone.”
The Olivares family is now scrambling to finish the project, so they can get out of their rv and move back in. Authorities believe Delgado is trying to flee to Mexico. If you have any information on his where about you can contact the La Feria constable
