Fresh off a trip to the region and in response to escalating violence there, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar met with Texas troops and discussed democracy and anti-terrorism initiatives with leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Cuellar’s six-day congressional delegation tour to the middle east . Congressman Cuellar was part of a three-member bi-partisan Texas delegation team that also included congressmen gene green from Houston, TX and Michael Mccaul from Austin, TX.
Congressman Cuellar and the congressional delegation pressed Pervez Musharraf to increase Pakistani efforts in fighting terrorism in the region bordering Afghanistan.
In addition, June was the deadliest month for foreign soldiers in Afghanistan since the U.S. led an invasion there to oust the Taliban in 2001.
Critics have long argued that the Iraq war has weakened the effort to fight terrorism in Afghanistan.
