U.S. Customs and Border protection officers seized a huge cocaine shipment worth a few million dollars at the Hidalgo-Reynosa international bridge.
The bust took place this past Labor Day weekend when inspection officers working at the port of entry ordered a secondary inspection of a bus.
X-Ray images revealed certain anomalies in the back part of the bus; a narcotics canine agent revealed that there was more than met the eye.
“In that one secret compartment they found 100 packages of cocaine, the domestic value of that cocaine is about 8.3 million dollars. It is a very large cocaine seizure, and is one of the largest one we have found today”
Authorities seized the cocaine and the bus. The driver of the bus– a 43 year-old U.S. citizen– was not immediately arrested but did receive a fine of 10 thousand dollars. The investigation is ongoing.
