Firefighters began transitioning from volunteers to full-time firefighters. The city hired four new firefighters this week.
Chief Elias Saldivar tells FOX 2 NEWS, it’s something he wished for since he headed the department. Assistant City Manager Steve Pena says the city has not only doubled in population but also in infrastructure.
In order for a company to choose to conduct business in here, city government must provide certain resources. Being a firefighter is a tough job, when they’re not responding to emergencies, they’re out conducting safety inspections.
Alton’s Fire Department has 15 employees, including Chief Saldivar. The bidding process for the construction of the new fire department will begin within the next 30 to 60 days. The project could be complete within a year.
