Brownsville authorities have discovered a parking lot near the downtown area where car thieves make adjustments to the stolen property before they send it off to Mexico. Two young car thieves were caught in the act as they left a black Chevy suburban at a parking lot near downtown Brownsville, while they tried to steal another vehicle before the end of the night. The car thieves in question had been using the parking lot at the 600 block of East San Francis as a staging area to prep vehicles before taking them to the other side of the border. Police arrested 19-year-old Jorge Luis Equia and 18-year-old Abelardo Encinia, who also admitted to a previous auto theft.

Brownsville P.D. Spokesperson, Jimmy Manrrique, says more officers are working graveyard shifts to catch these criminals. He adds car thieves are targeting GMC vehicles, because they are easy to break into. He says you don
