51 Brownsville high school seniors have been awarded $1million in Broad Prize scholarships. The school district won the prize in October of last year for this year’s grads. The Broad Prize is the nation’s most lucrative and said to be the most prestigious award as well.
The scholarships pay $20,000 over four years to students who attend a four-year school. Students who enroll in two-year colleges or technical programs receive $5,000 – $2,500 per year. Unlike traditional scholarships that reward top-tier students, broad scholarships are aimed at students who have improved their grades during high school and have a financial need.
