For those Brownsville residents that have outstanding fines at the municipal court, tomorrow will be your last chance to get that taken care of. Warrant officers will be on the hunt Saturday and they will use all means necessary to get you.
‘Since Friday when we started with the roundup we’ve had a total of17 arrests. We did very well on Saturday. We had 47 arrests.”
“There is an additional risk of someone going where you work, where you go to school, or your home to execute those warrants.”
That is exactly what happened to Rebecca Gonzalez. She has not paid several fines and last weekend she had a very unpleasant visit from Brownsville police department.
“Fue un oficial a buscarme a la casa. Me dieron hasta cierto dia parapagar lo que debia de multas an officer went to my house and I was told that I had until a certain day to pay my fines.”
Officials at the municipal court say that their no arrest period ends Friday and they want you to take advantage of this opportunity not only to avoid getting arrested, but also to help you save money.
“The amnesty was extended this week until tomorrow, so anyone who comes in voluntarily to take care of their citation will have their failure to appear dismissed.”
If you are going through a tough financial situation, the city is willing to work out a payment plan with you and even allow you to partake in community service.
If you take advantage of it do so, we will be out again Saturday, and this is something that we will also program for the rest of the year.”
The municipal court is located at 1034 east Levee Street. They are open until 5 o’clock tomorrow, so if you have some debt to pay your time is running out.
