The Brownsville police department announced that they will be in full force patrolling the streets these next few days. They will be checking and handing out citations for those who are popping fireworks and shooting firearms up in the air. Fines run anywhere from $220.00 for discharging fireworks within the city limits to $4,000 for unlawfully carrying a handgun, and if that person is a convicted felon the sum goes up to $10,000 plus jail time.
