A student from Ann Richards middle school in La Joya died yesterday after drowning in a canal in mission.
12 year-old Jose Eduardo Garcia along with other minors were fishing and playing in the canal that is on fm 495 and inspiration road.
The adult supervising the children called authorities around 3:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, to ask for help this after the boy slipped and fell in the water and did not come back to the surface.
Authorities want to remind viewers that canals are not intended for swimming, fishing or playing since tragedies like this can occur.
