Border Wall Construction Begins
This article was published 1 year 8 months ago which may make its actuality or accuracy no longer valid. Foxrio2.com is not responsible for any misunderstanding. The construction of the controversial border fence has started in Cameron County despite the efforts of many politicians and activist groups to prevent it from being placed in the lower valley. people who live in the river bend country club off of highway 281 in Cameron County, will soon get used to hearing the sound of pounding hammers and trucks passing by to transport material needed for the construction of the new border fence fields are already being cleared out and mounds of dirt are piling up
Carlos Cascos, Cameron County Judge: “The construction of the border wall is going to start very soon. You start moving dirt and developing the footprint for this wall, so it’s going to happen”
Cameron County Judge, Carlos Cascos, has already sent two letters to Washington D.C. to persuade President Bush and President Elect Barack Obama to end the project. He has yet to receive a response since there are larger problems these two men are dealing with right now.
Judge Cascos: “President elect Barack Obama is going to face a lot of challenges when he goes into office and he has to focus on the economic situation, foreign wars, and I don’t think the border wall will be a big issue for him.”
County officials keep pushing for an alternate option to secure the border. They suggest a levee/fence combination that will serve two purposes: reduce the flow of illegal immigration and control flooding in the event of a hurricane. A virtual fence has also been recommended.
Judge Cascos: “Creating more jobs for border patrol, setting up sensors, cameras, but the wall itself is not going to stop illegal immigration or contraband.”
Nonetheless, there are not any signs that congress will take Cameron county officials’ request into consideration. Another issue president elect Barack Obama will face is the immigration reform that was placed on the back burner during the last legislative session.

According to Michael Chertoff, this project was suppose to be for Homeland Security not immigration. Please contact your state representatives and local officials-we cannot afford this project. This is an expensive band aid to an alternate problem that Washington never fixed years ago. With a failing economy how could another $400 million dollars be allocated to complete this project. Washington needs to listen to the voters who put them in office. Cameron County officials waited too long to start writing to Washington (2 years too late) and the City of Brownsville Commission’s lack of professionalism is too busy arguing amongest themselves that their missing the point of why they were voted into office.
No Border Fence/Wall. God Bless America!
