Arraignment for Cheney and Gonzales to have packed courthouse
November 20, 2008 | News
A Texas judge has set a Friday arraignment for vice president Dick Cheney, former U.S. attorney general Alberto Gonzales and others named in indictments accusing them of responsibility for prisoner abuse in a federal detention center.
You can bet that the Willacy County courtroom will be packed tomorrow morning for the scheduled arraignments of several other local, state, and federal officials named in corruption indictments handed up by a Willacy County grand jury.
The multi-count indictments also accuse the officials with illegally profiting from their positions in connection with the awarding of local prison construction contracts or involvement in for-profit companies managing the prisons.
Defense attorneys are expected to file motions asking presiding judge Manuel Banales to throw out the indictments.
