Harlingen Police are taken on a high-speed chase and end up catching an alleged jewelry store robber. 31-year-old Miguel Angel Alvarado had been identified by police as the suspect in the San Miguel Jewelry store robbery that left the 68-year-old female owner beaten in a pool of blood last week. He was spotted early Saturday morning in an area north of 13th Street and old Rio Hondo Road with another man inside a brown car that had apparently been used in a Weslaco crime. The two lead police on a chase where Alvarado later fled on foot, but was ultimately apprehended. He was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest not to mention an aggravated assault charge from Austin. Total bond was set at $75,000.
