Accused baby murderer to undergo psychiatric evaluation
August 20, 2008 | News
Nat Perez, the lawyer of a Brownsville man accused of smothering his girlfriends 10-month-old baby girl filed a motion to push back the trial while his client undergoes a psychiatric evaluation.
Twenty eight year old Pedro Lara faces two charges…injury to a child and capital murder. Last January sheriffs deputies were called to the couples home on the 6200 block of tetetan street in Brownsville in reference to an unresponsive baby girl. Emergency medical staff gave the child first aid but was unable to revive her. She was declared dead at the scene. The autopsy results showed that the child had been a victim of previous physical abuse. Lara confessed that he had broken the infant’s arm late august 2007; he remains in a Cameron county jail tonight. The judge approved the motion and the evaluation will commence soon.
