A sick and cranky sick child can send any parent into a tailspin, but Austin acupuncturist Jennifer Crain says there are some things parents can do at home before going to the doctor, trying acupressure to relieve common illnesses. First up: fever:
“I like to use magnets but you don’t have to sit there with your thumb as well.. But again there’s no reason not to use your thumb as well.” Said the acupuncturist Jennifer Crain
On the foot, place it between the 2nd and third toe on the hand, same side of the body, put it between the thumb and index finger.
“In acupressure those points are really heat clearing points.. They stimulate the body to clear the heat.” Crain added.
To help a cough, apply pressure along the lung channel on the hand, that’s the point half way between the wrist and elbow. Press in a circular motion or put a magnet on the opposite foot.
“Right underneath the bone. Then I would place another magnet.” Explained the acupuncturist
You can also shred dicon radish and steam it.
“The pungency of the dicon radish is really astringing for the lungs.” Jennifer said.
Earaches there are lymphatic drainage techniques Jennifer suggests.
“What you ‘re going to do is start about an inch above the collar bone and rub right and massage in a downward direction for 5-10 minutes.”
If you’re skeptical about over the counter medicine
