A routine stop becomes a major drug bust

It was a calm Friday afternoon in La Joya until a suspicious pick up truck caught the attention of officials at the 800 block and east expressway. According to officials on a routine stop initially due to the tinted windows, when the officers asked the driver to roll down his window to their surprise they found close to 500 pounds of marijuana in the backseat.
The alleged smugglers were identified as 2 males about 18 to 19 years old and are currently arrested at the La Joya Police Department. Both these individuals will meet face to face with the judge tomorrow and be charged with smuggling of illegal drugs.
