Local politicians continue efforts in Austin to bring the much talked about medical school to the Rio Grande Valley, and they say accomplishing this is closer than ever.

The valley could soon have home bred doctors, a bill that features the merger of UT Pan-Am and UT Brownsville and the creation of a state of the art medical school, was presented at the state capitol this past Wednesday.

The process to make this a reality is well underway.

This Thursday night mayors from all over the valley gathered at the Edinburg conference center to talk about how much each city would have to donate for this to happen.

Regardless of the cost, this merger and new school will bring unprecedented benefits not only to the Valley but all of South Texas.
