A Texas prison escapee convicted in the attempted murder of two police officers, has eluded authorities for nearly 16 years now, they say he’s been captured.

The Department of Criminal Justice says Juan Salaz was arrested by mexican authorities last week.

The now 45-year-old U.S. citizen escaped “Garza East Prison” in Harris County in 1997, by climbing over three 16-ft. fences topped with razor wire.

He was serving concurrent 35-year sentences for aggravated kidnapping and attempted capital murder of two Houston police officers.

Texas authorities are awaiting Salaz’ extradition from Mexico.
