In the last state budget, Texas schools took a $5-billion hit. Now, there’s an indication there will be more money coming in the new budget.

Governor Rick Perry met with Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus at the capitol dome today.

The GOP leaders acknowledged they will work to improve education. Governor Perry is not ready to offer any blank checks to fund programs and jobs lost to recent cutbacks.

House democrats are worried strings will be attached to any funding increase like school voucher legislation.
