Local Post Office Alerts about Phone Scam

A scam is spreading in one Rio Grande Valley City. It all starts with a promising phone call, but like always, there’s a fishy catch.

FOX 2 spoke with two women in Mission who got a very similar phone call claiming they were from the U.S. Post Office.

The first victim said that she was caught off guard, and gave her date of birth, but then quickly realized it was a scam and filed a police report.

After we spoke with her, we received another phone call that there was a second victim in the Mission area.

We received a press release from the United States Post Office that directed us to information  that might help deter identification fraud.

It states:

” Don’t give your financial information, social security number, credit card, or bank account numbers to callers you don’t know. If it’s a reputable group, this information won’t be requested.”

If you think you are a victim of this scheme you can file a police report or you can log on to the post office anti fraud page (https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/).
