New Details Released in Deadly DPS Chase in the City of La Joya

More details are released in a deadly DPS chase in La Joya, yesterday afternoon.

Two undocumented immigrants were killed and two others injured when a state trooper opened fire on a Pick-up Truck.

It happened on Jarachinas Road and highway 107 at around 3 p.m.

Authorities suspected the vehicle was being used to traffic drugs and illegal immigrants when the truck refused to stop, a trooper opened fire trying to disable it.

After the shots were fired, the vehicle crashed, seven Guatemalans were arrested, no drugs were found.

The nationalities of the dead, and of an eighth person arrested, were not immediately released.

The officer who fired the shots is on administrative leave, which is standard protocol in fatal shootings.

The Guatemalan consulate in McAllen is demanding an investigation.
