With early voting well on its way, experts say its been a record breaking first few days of voting for Hidalgo County.

Numbers don’t lie and what these numbers show is a tremendous increase from the number of people that have made their way to the polls during early voting compared to those in the 2008 elections.

In 2008 a total of 9,464 people voted on the first day of early voting.

On the first day of early voting this year 13,831 people made their way to the Hidalgo County polls, that’s a 143 percent increase.

If the trend continues the expected total of early voters would be 187,334 as opposed to the 132,626 from 2008.

Residents of the Rio Grande Valley, who have already voted did so, to avoid long lines on November 6.

But experts say there might be another reason for why so many people have already voted.

All in all its an exciting time for Hidalgo County, as early voters keep making their way to the polls
