Two people are dead after a DPS helicopter opened fire on a vehicle it was chasing.
It was an intensely active scene this afternoon North of La Joya by Jarachinas Road and Highway 107. DPS along with Texas Game Warden and Hidalgo County officers blocked off the entrance to the actual scene. According to a statement given by the Department of Public Safety, its aircraft was assisting Texas Parks and Wildlife in a high-speed chase when the officers fired down on the vehicle as an enforcement action. Two people were killed another one wounded and six others taken into custody.
Border Patrol Agents were also on the scene but it was not confirmed whether or not those involved in the chase were undocumented immigrants.
This case is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
