A Mexican folk music icon that many in the Rio Grande Valley hold dear to their ears, is getting checked for cancer at a Texas hospital.

Vicente Fernandez, considered Mexico’s most famous living singer, was scheduled for a biopsy in Houston today, after doctors found something suspicious in his liver.

Fernandez is asking the public not to be alarmed, but to pray for him. His career has spanned four decades, and is known as the king of ranchera music.
