Hidalgo and Cameron Counties experienced severe thunderstorm weather today. Strong winds, rain and even hail came down over our area. Some of the places that saw the most activity were Elsa and Edcouch where hail was reported around 6pm. Residents in McAllen, Edinburg and Mercedes also saw hail. This time around there were only reports of pea-sized hail unlike the golf size in the March and April storms that caused a lot of property damage.
Electric company AEP reported that 10, 399 people were without power. Some of the areas that went without electricity were Mission by Holland Street, Pharr by Cage and Bluebonnet, as well as the intersection of Ware and 495 in McAllen. This included street lights causing dangerous driving conditions for some time.
