Medicaid Changes Still Affecting Local Pharmacies

But the fight continues and that’s why today a special event was created to help raise awareness.
On National American Pharmacists month the Rio Grande Valley Independent Pharmacy Association organized this special event.
Jose Roberto Muñiz has served the community as a pharmacist for more than 40 years. He says he’s never seen so many pharmacies close their doors and cut services throughout his career.
Insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers who now receive most of the reimbursements, before the pharmacies are based out of state. That’s why state Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. says it’s important to support the local industry.
His son, State Representative Eddie Lucio III adds that the cuts of the current budget for the Rio Grande Valley was cut 1 billion dollars and this is a result of that.
The next legislative session in Austin will take place in January. We will keep you posted.
