Health Matters: Hair Loss
This article was published 7 months 5 days ago which may make its actuality or accuracy no longer valid. Foxrio2.com is not responsible for any misunderstanding. No one is safe from hair loss, not even children. There are many reasons why hair loss occurs. FOX2 spoke to Alejandro Lara, a specialist from the Hair Loss Control Clinic in McAllen about hair loss 101.
“95% of hair loss is due to DHT which is the dihydrotestosterone and there could be some other reasons,” said Alejandro Lara, Hair Loss Control Clinic Specialist.
Other reasons include medications, hormonal changes, thyroid problems, stress, diet, exposure to chemicals and genetics. Mr. Lara says the main factor for hair loss is due to dihydrotesterone binding to the androgen receptors on the hair follicle, not allowing nutrients to travel through the receptor. This causes hair to not grow properly.
“The symps of hair loss would be basically when you’re taking a shower you will notice a lot of hair in the drain, also when you brush it or also in the pillow you will notice a lot of hair,” said Alejandro Lara, Hair Loss Control Clinic Specialist.
According to Mr. Lara, men are at a 50% higher risk of losing hair when compared to women. This is due to the higher levels of testosterone in males, which then converts to DHT.
Mr. Lara recommends hair loss patients to seek professional help as soon as possible. Most people that visit Mr. Lara have already lost 40% of their hair. Waiting only prolongs faster growth results.
