Hidalgo County will Implement “Scofflaw” Program

A new program known as “Scofflaw” is now in effect here in Hidalgo County, with the sole purpose of collecting the millions of dollars owed to the county.

If you owe  court fines or fees, you might want to pay up, because the county is now denying motor vehicle registration and renewal services to those who do.

It’s all part of the program Scofflaw, which is the implementation phase of a project that initiated with operation clean slate, that allowed residents to pay online, for their convenience.

Just by asking for your name, date of birth and license, now it will be revealed at the tax collector’s offices  if you owe a fine or fee over 90 days past due.

And even know, payment plans are not an option. The county is working on installing machines at the tax offices, to allow residents to pay right then and there.

And that address where you can actually verify if you owe or not and even to make an online payment is ( www.hidalgocounty.us ).
