Mother Arrested for Abandoning Child while Shopping

A Brownsville mother is behind bars after allegedly locking her 4-year-old son in the car while she went shopping.

Gloria Martinez, 24 years old, was arrested yesterday afternoon, outside the Wal-Mart on Boca Chica Boulevard. Authorities say the child was locked inside the vehicle and crying. The 4-year-old was checked out by medical personnel for slight dehydration.

Martinez was issued a $10,000 bond. The boy is currently in the custody of family members.
