2nd Officer-Involved Shooting Suspect in Court

The second suspect in an officer-involved shooting that sent another man to the hospital faced a judge today

David Alejandro Gil, 26 years old, was in an Edinburg court this afternoon. He, along with his 45-year-old brother Santiago Bruno, are accused of leading police on a pursuit following a beer theft from a convenience store in the Mercedes Community of La Villa on Sunday.

They attempted to flee the scene after their vehicle rolled over. That’s when officers opened fire, shooting Bruno three times. He is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

Gil managed to evade authorities, but was arrested yesterday. He was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, as well as evading authorities. And was issued a $35,000 bond.

It’s unclear if the suspects were armed. Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
