Trial Against Alleged Gulf Cartel Members Continues

Rafael Cardenas-Vela, the nephew of Former Gulf Cartel Kingpin Osiel Cardenas-Guillen, has been the main witness at the federal trial of Juan Roberto Rincon-Rincon.
The former cartel bodyguard briefly ran one of the zones of influence on the Texas-Mexico border. The high-profile nature of this case had the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department taking every precaution necessary.
Rincon-Rincon is charged with conspiring to possess and import cocaine and marijuana. Cardenas-Vela plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and marijuana in exchange for the government dropping money laundering and immigration charges back in March. He awaits sentencing.
