Right across the border in Reynosa, 26 people are dead and dozens injured in an explosion at a gas refinery this morning. We want to warn you the images are graphic in nature.
Mexican officials say it happened at around 10:45 a.m. at the Pemex Pipeline Distribution Center. One of the natural gas plants was undergoing repairs, when a flame sparked, quickly igniting throughout the plant. Initial reports of 10 dead, rose to at least 26 by late afternoon, with 49 people injured.
Authorities in McAllen and Hidalgo crossed into Tamaulipas to provide assistance. It took about two hours to extinguish the fire. Pemex officials have shut off the pipeline, and are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
