Tonight kicked off the first of three town hall meetings in Hidalgo County this week about a new drainage system.

This evening’s event took place at the STC Cooper Center on Pecan Boulevard in McAllen. This November Hidalgo County voters will cast their ballot on a $84-million drainage bond referendum.

Experts say the Rio Grande Valley would be facing  billions of dollars in damaged properties if a heavy storm or hurricane hits.

There are also city hall meetings scheduled for Wednesday in Weslaco and Thursday in Donna, both at 6 p.m. For more information log on to www.hcdrainage.org.
