4-year-old in Mercedes Shot in Eye with Pellet Gun

Authorities say it happened on the 4300 block of Devon Street in Mercedes last night. The young girl’s 8-year-old cousin was playing with the pellet gun, when he set it down. The 4-year-old grabbed the weapon, and it accidentally discharged. The pellet lodged in her left eye.
We spoke with her family, who is understandably distraught and worried over the incident.
The girl was initially at McAllen Medical Center, but has been transferred to a San Antonio hospital for specialized treatment. Her condition is unknown.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s are investigating if any laws were violated. At this time, no arrests have been made, but child protective services have been notified.
