A possible confirmed case of West Nile in Hidalgo County has raised concern in the population but county health officials tell us this is nothing to panic about.

Dr. Hector Amaya from Weslaco says he diagnosed and reported the first partially confirmed case of West Nile Virus in Hidalgo County.

The patient came to the clinic with all of the symps of the disease that has killed 22 people in Dallas County.

One of the tests used to diagnose West Nile did come back positive, but county health authorities tell us that that test is used to determine if the patient has ever been exposed to the virus, not if the disease is active.

Officials are still taking the necessary precautions to avoid an epidemic like the one seen Dallas County.
