Peña-Nieto is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reevaluate the murder case of Rosa Estela Olvera Jimenez. The Mexican National was sentenced to 99 years in prison, in the 2005 death of a nearly 2-year-old boy she was babysitting. The child died three months after choking on paper towels lodged in his throat. Jimenez says she is innocent. Peña-Nieto argues she was denied due process because she wasn’t able to hire expert witnesses, and had ineffective counsel.
