Mother Faces Capital Murder Trial in Edinburg

A valley mother who stands trial for capital murder after she allegedly killed her 2-year-old son in 2008 was back in court today.

34-year-old Maria Almaguer, is accused of kicking 2-year-old Isaias Ismael Alvarez to death.

Almaguer plead not guilty to the charges and claims she is innocent.

According to prosecutors, Isaias lost weight and got sick during his mother’s care.

He had been hospitalized on four different occasions, including for a fractured skull.

Autopsy results revealed the child died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

Almaguer is due back in court next week to learn her fate.
