Planned Parenthood hits Roadblock in Court Ruling

A federal court ruled that Texas can stop funding Planned Parenthood clinics.

Earlier this year, a court injunction ruled that planned parenthood could continue to receive state funding until a trial set for October. This trial will decide whether a law banning Planned Parenthood from ever receiving state funding would stand, but now the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted that injunction.

Texas is now free to deny funding to those clinics affiliated with abortion providers. None of the Rio Grande Valley Planned Parenthood Clinics are abortion providers, and representatives say other health care services will be affected.

Still, Planned Parenthood will explore their legal options.

These cuts are projected to take health care away from 160,000 women per year,

including about 15,000 low-income women in Hidalgo and Starr Counties.
