Experts say it is due to the growing trend of living with another person and not getting married.
Specifically, Americans over the age of 50, are keeping their options open.
Some are spending their golden years single with a permanent roommate.
More and more Americans over 50 are choosing to live with their partner.
And opting out of marriage.
That’s according to a new report from the Health and Retirement Study and the last two censuses.
Results show that cohabitation among older Americans and retirees has more than doubled in the past decade.
While the trend mirrors younger generations, older couples living together tend to stay together longer than their younger counterparts.
Research also finds that women are more hesitant to marry later in life due to the perceived loss of freedom.
The study is detailed in August’s issue of “The Journal of Marriage and Family.”
