The UT System is taking a major step forward for future doctors of the Rio Grande Valley. A medical school is in the very near future.

The University of Texas System Chancellor say the first class of South Texas medical students is expected to graduate by 2018.

State Senator Eddie Lucio authored the bill, along with other South Texas elected officials, proposing a freestanding medical school, which will be called the UT-Health Sciences Center- South Texas.
