Mexico: High-Risk Situations in Reynosa, Tamaulipas

The Mexican State of Tamaulipas, where social media played a pivotal role in several shootings today. It happened in the border City of Reynosa. FOX 2 News Reporter Laura Cavazos has more.

Today a few miles from here south of the border a shootout broke out, how did we find out? Social media, people that are living these violent situations.

This occurred in august of 2010 in Reynosa, today something similar occurred, on Twitter and Facebook, residents of the border town south of McAllen sent pictures of streets that were blocked on maestro boulevard and in front of the H-E-B near the broncos bridge. We spoke to a woman who had just crossed into McAllen from Reynosa off the Hidalgo Bridge.

“Usually, the streets are blocked and they don’t let us cross and I heard shots fired,” said an anonymous source.

This occurred near the Reynosa hospital one of the nurses says they knew about the danger that loomed outside the medical center.

“We heard that the streets were blocked and there were cars with flat tires stalled, they were spooked, precisely when the suspects are being followed they throw spikes at the Mexican soldiers,” said another anonymous source.

Unofficial information suggests that the commander of a Mexican Cartel was detained by the Mexican Marines.

Cuss and Border Protection say that the international bridge was not in immediate danger and the bridge crossings is operating normally.
