Cameron County Employee Under Investigation

An employee at the county clerk’s office is under arrest. FOX 2 Reporter Cynthia Cano joins us with more.
A Cameron County District Clerk’s Office worker has been arrested after allegedly stealing funds collected by the office.
Public records and county officials have confirmed that Melinda Gilman Gonzalez faces charges for theft and tampering with official documents. After a warrant for her arrest the county employee voluntarily quit her job and turned herself in to authorities.
Gonzalez worked for the clerk’s office for the past three years she allegedly took $7,800 in cash from the collection box and then manipulated certain official documents to hide the illicit transactions.
County Clerk Aurora de la Garza didn’t want to give an on camera interview but said that this is a very unpleasant time in her administration by that she will make sure that those responsible are hold accountable for their actions.
If found guilty of these charges Melinda Gonzalez could face up to 2 years in a state prison.
