Health Matters: Stroke or “Brain Attack”
This article was published 9 months 10 days ago which may make its actuality or accuracy no longer valid. Foxrio2.com is not responsible for any misunderstanding.According to Valley Baptist Medical Center, every 45 seconds someone suffers a stroke in the United States. And the Rio Grande Valley now has a machine that reduces your chance of stroke damage.
Valley Baptist Medical Center is the first in the RGV to offer such an advanced comprehensive stroke program.
“A stroke is a blood clot stopping blood flow and that can affect your face, your arms, and your speech,” said Dr. Ameer Hassan, Neurologist at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Valley Baptist is also the first in the country to receive the 3d version of the GE Biplane machine.
Dr. Ameer Hassan, Neurologist at Valley Baptist Medical Center, said the window of time for stroke patients to receive treatment has now doubled with this new technology. He explains that previously patients only had up to four and a half hours and the new time is up to over eight hours.
Even though this technology provides hope, experts say people should be aware of symps first and foremost.
Symps include:
-weakness or numbness, especially on one side of the body
-confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
-difficulty walking, dizziness or loss of coordination
Dr. Hassan says the earlier a patient seeks treatment, the better their overall chances.
Remember immediate action can not only save a life but help avoid side effects. For more information, consult with your healthcare provider.
