In Texas, the death toll rises in one of the deadliest human smuggling accidents in history. A deadly crash in Goliad County has claimed its 15th victim.
State authorities believe the front tire coming apart was the cause of Sunday’s crash, about 70 miles northeast of Corpus Christi. Investigators say the pickup truck crammed 23 illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America, when it veered off the highway and crashed into trees.
Eight people remain in the hospital. Investigators are working to identify the victims.
