Providing your insurance information to these companies could actually cost you a lot of money, because that’s when experts say, you become most vulnerable to fraud.

Leticia Salinas, like many valley residents after the hail storm looked for a company to make repairs on her roof. She was shocked to find, the prices varied within thousands of dollars.

Leticia would provide her insurance information to some of the roof repair companies and that’s why according to attorney Javier Villalobos, scammers made their move.

Villalobos explains a case in which his client initially was charged $8,205.54 by a local roofing repair company. Then the client gave them documents from the insurance which showed an approval for $11, 357.24 for repairs for the roof among other damages. Then the client received a way higher bill from the roofing company, for the same amount approved by the insurance on the exact same services.

Moreover, while Leticia’s is still looking for a way to pay for her roof repairs, you can actually take some precautions.

One recommendation is if you are planning to hire a roofing company, you might want to do some research on the better business bureaus website before you hire them, which could maybe prevent you from having some headaches.
